Have experience as a Deck Officer: Before becoming a pilot, it is essential you have already gained experience working on vessels. This includes working as a deck officer on a variety of vessels to gain a broad range of knowledge and skills related to navigation and vessel operations.

Meet the eligibility requirements: To become a pilot, you will need to meet the eligibility requirements set by the relevant regulatory authorities. This typically includes holding a valid COC, being medically fit to perform the pilot work and having age requirements of below 60 years old.

Apply for the Trainee Pilot Program: Darussalam Pilotage Services Private Limited offers a Trainee Pilot Program for eligible candidates. This program provides an opportunity for trainee pilots to earn a salary while undergoing the necessary training to become qualified pilots.

Complete the required training: As a trainee pilot, all of your training will be fully sponsored by Darussalam Pilotage Services Private Limited. Obtain a pilotage license: After successfully completing the required training and assessments, you will be eligible to apply for a pilotage license from the relevant regulatory authority. Once you have obtained your license, you will be able to start working as a pilot with Darussalam Pilotage Services Private Limited.

To be eligible for the position of Pilot Trainee, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold at least a Class 3 COC or equivalent certification, indicating a high level of knowledge and skill in the operation of a vessel.

  • Medically fit to perform the Pilot duties.

  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in English. Malay language proficiency is an advantage.

  • Have strong listening and negotiation skills, allowing you to communicate effectively with other crew members, authorities, and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate strong analytical and decision-making skills, allowing you to quickly assess situations and make informed decisions that prioritize safety and efficiency.

  • Possess strong leadership skills, enabling you to lead and manage a team of crew members effectively, and remain calm under pressure.

  • Have a good understanding of the Marine Industry as a whole, including regulations, practices, and standards.
